A derelict truck on the outskirts of a rural town, found at the start of winter. This vehicle has sat on the given property for over a year that I know of, and hasn’t moved from its spot throughout that time. The sign in the photograph was replaced sometime in mid-2023. A different low-quality handwritten sign with the same message sits in the window, likely to be replaced the year after and the year after that. All the while, the truck sends a message far more clear: I will trash this land as I please, I will rob this vehicle of all value, I will make problems for others after I’m gone.
Several exceptional preserves are in the vicinity of this truck, so its rusting hulk and thoughtless message serves as an unfortunate landmark. I wonder if the traffic of those who enjoy nature is why the owner arranged his message this way. At the same time, I feel that his reasons aren’t worth trying to understand.
