Cracked sandstone rendered as a barren, mountainous plain.

A desolate scene found in the sandstone bluffs of Buffalo Rock State Park, outside of Utica, IL. The minuscule ridges and cracks seemed as mountainous upheavals strewn across a lifeless waste that unfurled beyond reckoning, but failed to deter those who departed long ago.

Flash fiction seemed out-of-place for this entry and scene. Instead, I simply enjoy imagining that departure, and if those who light signal fires atop the sharp and sweeping mountains even remember the reason why.
