A stark black sign covered in numerous, broken, vertical white lines. Two letters remain intact, with the outlines of large letters seen at random in the lines.

A badly weathered parking sign. I saw in its nearly illegible text, spreading rust, and unrestrained stress marks a legal agreement – binding despite its age. We find countless legal forms online and in everyday life: user agreements, terms of service, privacy policies, disclaimers, waivers, limitations. The variations are endless, and for as important as it is to have clearly-defined writing on what one can expect to receive, to owe, or to forfeit, many agree to such arrangements without reading what was agreed to.

Always make sure you know what you’re accepting, allowing, or giving up. Ink fades, paper cracks, and hard drives crash, but if the form exists, the agreement holds.
