A massive bluff alongside a hill covered in a thick coat of leaves, all of which have been untouched since falling. Rendered in monochrome.

Taken in Starved Rock State Park of IL, USA. Perhaps it was because snow, ice, and general gloom lingered in this area, weeks after the official end of 2013’s brutal winter, but this normally well-traveled walkway was pristine. I expected crushed leaves, trampled snow, and dried or fresh mud mixed all throughout, but instead found leaves covered only by their brethren below and atop the bluffs, and snow which was left pristine.

At least ten minutes passed as I waited for the sun to illuminate this shot – During that time, I stood thankful for and rejoicing in the resounding serenity, lost in the soothing chatter of melting snow dripping from an overhang behind me.
